The manufacturing of carpets began around 1890. Using luxurious fine wool and silk allows skilled weavers to make some of the most beautiful and extremely complex designs of the highest quality, for which they are known. Garden, medallion, or figural carpets with plant and animal motifs are common. It is now common to see the name of the weaver or the designer woven at the top of the rug. Qum rugs are very carefully and finely knotted, and their entire foundation is made from pure silk. This Qum carpet was woven by a famous weaver and is signed "Tarhe Tolid Kolhor."
