In This and That, a vivid passage of burnt orange, coral and burgundy rises through a delicate palette of powder blue, blush pink and lilac. Sage green, ochre and warm taupe weave between the colours, while concentrated marks of deep blue give definition to the softer surrounding forms. The composition moves between open washes and densely worked areas, with loops, dashes and broken brushstrokes creating an animated surface. Colours mingle and separate, revealing glimpses of earlier marks beneath.
